This family looks quite happy. They look like normal people living a good life. Although, the son seems very mad. Everyone else is smiling in the picture or at least looking satisfied, but the son isn't. It looks like something is bothering him. On the other hand, the girl seems really happy. Everyone else is wearing something very fancy and proper for the picture, but the boy is wearing a shirt and shorts. This sort of gives me the sense that he doesn't like to fit in with his family.

Find a family photo (electronic, hard or Xerox copies are okay) at home that relates in some way to one of those you researched to bring to class. Now write a well-organized, well-thought-out and complete response to the following questions concerning the photos.
- In examining your researched photos, what evidence suggest that life was normal for Jews before the Nazis?
- It looked like they were happy and normal. Since they are smiling in the picture (on the left), they must be happy. If they were happy, there weren't Nazis and that must of been normal for them.
- What did you find as you looked through your own family’s photos in relation to those that you had researched? Which one did you choose to share that relates and why?
- My family is normal. We are usually happy. It shows that we are happy because we are smiling in the picture (on the right.) One thing that I noticed was that in the picture (on the left) and in the picture (on the right) both of the brothers of the girls aren't smiling as much.
- In comparing these photos, how do they show the similarities between you, your family, or your community and those in the researched photos?
- I found that we were both normal. Sometimes things can change us and the way we act, but we are still normal and happy. I saw that in the pictures, we are both smiling because we are both normal.
- What do these photos, yours and the researched ones, tell you about Jewish life in Europe before World War II?
- People weren't pushed around to do work and to suffer. They were just normal people living a happy life. A life that makes them smile and laugh which is what a normal life is like.
